Policy Related Questions

Our policy is designed to help people protect themselves against the risk of a breakdown. We have a 24 hour exclusion period on UK and EU single trip policies and 72 hour exclusion period on annual EU policies to help us deter people from making claims for existing faults and to keep premiums lower for everyone.
When you start the policy is up to you. If you start it when you purchase the policy you will lose 24 (UK and EU single trip policies) or 72 hours (annual EU policies) of cover. If you start it 24 or 72 hours after your purchase you will get cover for the full 12 month term.
We cannot provide immediate cover. We provide an insurance policy that guards against the risk of breaking down, which is much cheaper than paying for assistance once you have broken down. Feel free to contact our Help Centre on 0330 123 3923 for a price for uninsured assistance.
We currently fix 4 out of 5 of vehicles at the roadside within the 1 hour covered by the policy.
You, your vehicle and any passengers, will be recovered to the nearest suitable repairer, your original destination or your original departure point within 20 miles.
If we cannot fix your vehicle in an hour and we have reason to think it could be repaired in the same day, we will recover you and your vehicle to the nearest suitable garage. The choice of garage is at our discretion but will be reputable. We can also take you straight home provided that it is within a 20 mile radius.
Providing the caravan/trailer meets the policy requirements and is fitted with a standard towing hitch, it will be recovered with your vehicle at no extra cost.
We provide breakdown assistance. We do not pay for repairs done at the garage.
We cover cars, motorcycles, estate cars, 4x4 vehicles, vans (up to 3500kg) and towed caravans/trailers. They need to be in a roadworthy condition, and correctly maintained.

We do not cover minibuses, motorhomes, horseboxes or limousines. We are unable to provide assistance to vehicles exceeding 3500kg gross vehicle weight, 5.1m length, 1.95m high, 2.1m wide. We cannot cover vehicles used for motor racing, rallies, rental, hire, public hire, private hire, courier services or any contest or speed trial or practice for any of these activities (please refer to the terms & conditions for limitations and exclusions).

We cover vehicles up to and including 15 years old on UK policies, up to and including 12 years old on annual European policies and up to and including 10 years old on single trip policies.

Our policies do not carry an excess or call out charge. You can select a voluntary excess of £35 in the event of each roadside emergency claim. You would have to make payment of £35 by debit or credit card (excluding AMEX) to receive assistance.
The number of callouts you get depend on the type of policy that you purchase. If you have chosen a single vehicle or personal policy you get 5 callouts per year, for 2 vehicles or people this increases to 6, for 3 people or vehicles this increases to 7 and for 4 people or vehicles this increases to 8.
If the recovery operator confirms they are unable to repair your vehicle at the roadside, we will assist in arranging and paying for the vehicle, driver and up to 6 passengers to be recovered to the nearest garage.
If your vehicle cannot be repaired by the time you need to come home, we will arrange for the vehicle, driver and up to 6 passengers to be transported to your home address. If you would prefer (and it is closer) we can take you to your original destination in Europe. Repatriation costs are limited to the vehicles current UK market value and we will not bring you home within 48 hours of the original breakdown.
Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Vatican City and other islands that belong to these countries and that are in Europe.
The policy will pay up to a maximum of £750 towards the reasonable cost of alternative transport or vehicle hire (terms and conditions apply).
The policy can pay a maximum of £150 for a lone traveller or £75 per passenger for one night Bed & Breakfast (up to £500 in total for your group). The choice of benefit offered is ours, and we determine this by assessing what is most cost effective in the circumstances.
You can either renew online by purchasing a new policy, or by using the link in the renewal email reminder we send. You may also renew your policy from the Customer Dashboard using the login details provided in your purchase email. General Questions

Yes, our policy covers repatriation of your vehicle (provided the cost of repatriation does not exceed the value of your vehicle). We will repatriate your vehicle provided it is 48 hours after the breakdown incident. We can, as an alternative, transport your vehicle to your planned destination if it is closer and you would prefer.
We provide a budget of £750 towards alternative hire, which you can reclaim once you return from your holiday. You can hire a vehicle of any duration up to that amount while you are on your trip and we will reimburse it.
Some countries in Europe will insist on providing a recovery service on main roads and recovering you to a safe place. That is under their laws and we cannot intervene but we can assist from wherever they leave you. However, we will assist you from where they leave you. We will reimburse up to £150 of any charge made in respect of the authority's services.
Yes you can. Our EU Single Trip cover is available for a trip in Europe up to 90 days and is available on all eligible vehicles which are less than 11 years old.
The vehicle should be kept in a good condition and have been serviced regularly in line with the manufacturer's recommendations. Please note that any breakdowns caused by a failure to maintain the vehicle in a roadworthy condition including maintenance or proper levels of oil and water, will not be covered.
Breakdown Assist is a trading style of QDOS Insurance Services Limited, who has been selling insurance since 2005 through insurance brokers and car dealerships. We also sell alternative breakdown insurance through QDOS Breakdown. We can be found on various comparison sites and on the independent review site
We do not operate our own fleet so we do not have the costs of operating a fleet which would need to be included in the premium. This also gives us greater flexibility to ensure we keep response times down.
We have access to a network of 350 independent recovery agents with over 3500 vehicles. They all adhere to a strict service level agreement. All agents are members of the professional recovery associations.
We do not have the cost of operating our own vehicles and operating mainly on the internet, which enables us to save costs on staff and postage charges. You could say 'why are other companies so expensive'.
You only need your vehicle registration number to obtain a quote on our website. We will not ask for any personal information unless you proceed to buy. If you are having problems obtaining a quote please call us on 0800 112 4505.
It may be possible that the comparison site only provides guide prices. You may not have been asked for all of the information needed to formulate a valid quote.
Our European policies cover all of the countries mentioned above. We do not group countries into zones.
There is no current option to pay the premium in instalments. Payment is requested at the time of purchasing the policy.
Yes. Our payments are taken by Sagepay, a multinational organisation who are PCI compliant. QDOS Insurance Services is Trustwave compliant. We do not store payment details.
There is a small administration charge of £7.50 in the event of a policy amendment or cancellation. This is approximately half the cost of our competitors and ensures that your policy is up to date.
Yes. You must notify us immediately of a change of address or vehicle. We are only able to assist vehicles that are registered with us. Please phone our Sales Team on 0800 112 4505 or you can log into our Customer Dashboard to make the changes yourself..
You can cancel your policy at any time. If you cancel your policy within 14 days of receiving your documents you will be entitled to a refund. The refund will be less our administration charge of £7.50 (subject to no claim having been made). If you decide to cancel after 14 days, we will provide a pro rata refund for any time due less our administration change of £7.50 and £15 insurer charges (subject to no claim having been made). PLEASE NOTE a refund of premium is not available if the period of insurance is less than one month.

Our 24 hour UK based Help Centre can be contacted on 0330 123 3923 or 01737 334010 if you prefer a UK landline number, or are calling from outside the UK. They are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year. If you are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired you can text the word “breakdown” to 07624 808266 for assistance. If you would prefer not to or are unable to speak to anybody, you can report your breakdown, with just a few clicks, using our E-Rescue Service. Once you have reported your breakdown to us, you will receive an SMS to confirm an estimated time of arrival for our recovery operator.
French law states you must obtain recovery assistance by using the emergency roadside phones provided. Please remember to contact us so that we can make arrangements to meet you. Recovery charges are set by the French government and costs not exceeding £150.00 are recoverable on sight of a valid receipted invoice.

Documentation Questions

We email policy documents to you as soon as the payment is received. If you require the documents in the post you can pay an additional small fee and you should receive them within 5 working days.
